The History of the Gold Bar
The Hague is steeped in a rich cultural history, our Gold Bar is no different. From the moment you walk in, you are instantly transported back to a 1920s speakeasy.
Taking inspiration from the prohibition era of the United States, speakeasy bars are shrouded in mystery and embrace their unique, vintage aesthetic.
Located in the safe of the former bank, the red velvets and gold accents seen throughout The Gold Bar are a nod to the banking history of the hotel. Other features of this historic bank remain, it would be hard for visitors to miss the giant door that leads into The Vault.
The Vault was originally built to house the country’s gold reserves and could hold over 7000 gold bars. In times of civil unrest, The Vault would be used as an emergency shelter and was once used by the Queen and her children who sought refuge during World War II. Today The Vault remains fitted with the original bank vault doors and is used to host events for those who would like a quirky backdrop to their celebration.
